Monster Invitational Group Show @ FOE Gallery 7/8/11 North Hampton, Massachusetts

Monster Invitational Group Show

July 8th - July 22nd, 2011

FOE has curated a group show paying homage to monsters. The idea of monsters is as old as civilization and what society defines as monstrous changes and morphs through time and culture. Depending on when and where you grew up, it’s likely some version of monster, urban myth or story shaped your fears and nightmares. No one escapes this rite of passage. Come out to see how 20 different artists from westernmass to Japan interpret their own unique fears, repulsions and pleasures. It may sound scary, but monsters are fun too, and fears confronted (or exercised) are fears conquered.

Stephen Blickenstaff, Michael Bracco/Spaghetti Kiss, Paddy Charles, Bob Conge/Plaseebo, Dream Rocket, Halfbad Toyz, Paul Kaiju, Jeff Lamm/Greasebat, Brian Mahony/Guumon, Ben Mininberg/Prometheus Rising Studio, Monster Worship, Mark Nagata/Max Toy Co, Michael Nordstrom, Osiris Orion, Ben Reigle, Todd Robertson, Splurrt, Eric Talbot, Velocitron, Dave Wach

While I'm glad that this is out there for everyone, I'm particularly glad that the artists who weren't able to make it get to see this.  You all put a lot of work into this and the show looks great.  I really appreciate all the effort particularly with things like the TAG opening same night and SDCC just around the corner.  I admire the work ethic as much as the talent.

Not your fault, the DR show pieces didn't arrive until Saturday.  It was just some of the house collection out at the opening.  I've gotta say that the blue Balbagon that came in for the show has a glitter rub that is one of the most amazing things I've seen.

Glad you were able to make it out Friday and thanks for taking some video, Osiris.

Shane, that's Michael Nordstrom at :47.  He's the man behind Garamania.  He's a couple of hours north of FOE but he came out for the show.  He's a good guys and his work is cool.  He goes for a pretty realistic style paint with lots of attention to small details including small sculpted details.  On alot of his piece he's replaced the eyes with glass beadswith a glitter backing; it's a really interesting effect.
